5 Ways to Keep Your Immunity Strong

My family’s health is one of my top priorities.  Every day I try to make choices that will ultimately lead to our family living a healthy lifestyle, feeling our best and staying healthy! 

Our health is one of the most valuable things you have and it's not always easy to stay healthy.  Our immune system works hard every single day to protect us against harmful pathogens that make us sick,  as well as different diseases.

Living a healthy lifestyle is the best way to support a strong immune system. Every part of your body functions better when it is fueled with the right nutrients, enough sleep and minimal stress. While this sounds ideal, here are 5 practical ways you can support your immunity. 

Get enough nutrition

Vitamins and minerals are essential components of our diet that have long been known to influence the immune system.  Eating a balanced quality diet, can prevent deficiencies of these vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. However, there are lots of situations when we aren’t always eating a variety of nutritious foods, or times when we have increased nutrient needs. In these cases a supplement may help to fill nutritional gaps.

Exercise daily

There are so many benefits to exercise - even just 30 minutes a day!  When you get your body moving, it can help boost your mood, help you sleep better, help prevent chronic illness, slow the release of stress hormones, and even boost your energy level. Find something you love and create a routine to include it everyday for a daily immunity boost.  

Get enough sleep

Prebiotics are non-digestible food components that microbes break down and use as energy.  The study of the gut microbiome is an exciting and emerging area of research, and we have a lot to learn about how these microbes affect our health.

Probiotics and prebiotics are both found in different types of foods.  Currently there is not a recommendation of how much of these foods to eat in order to get enough probiotics and prebiotics
