7 Easy Ways to Donate with these Awesome Apps

by Caroline Fontein

Did you already get your workout in for the day? What about posting a cute photo (that you won’t actually delete later) on Instagram or Facebook? Will you be shopping online?

If you answered yes to any of the above, we’ve got some news for you. By doing little more than your everyday routine, you could help protect endangered sea turtles, feed a child, build a new home for families in need and make a blind man see - all before lunchtime.

The best part, you barely even have to lift a finger (literally). And you don’t even need to donate money, to make a charitable donation.

How you ask?

Thanks to some amazing mobile apps, you can select the charity of your choice and start saving the world one tap at a time.

Here's a list of our favorite apps that make giving back a breeze:

ShareTheMeal

Share the Meal App Logo

Who it’s perfect for: Anyone who loves helping others and sharing food pics.

How it helps: ShareTheMeal is an initiative of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger. With this app you can help feed a hungry child for a day for only $0.50. Each year they help about 80 million people in around 80 countries by distributing approximately 12.6 billion rations.

How it works: You can make a one-time donation of $.50 or donate for a week ($3.50), month ($15), three months ($45) or a year ($182.50). There’s also the option to feed more than one child at a time.

Charity Miles

Who it’s perfect for: Anyone who engages in any form of daily exercise. Even walking your dog counts.

How it helps: Charity Miles lets you turn your daily walk, run or biking into an opportunity to raise money for charity. The app partners with more than 40 charities, and you ge to select which one you want to support.

How it works: To start donating all you have to do is select your charity and the type of workout you’re doing. Then, based on how far you go, you’ll earn money for charity just by using the app.

Donate a Photo

Who it’s perfect for: Anyone who loves sharing photos on social media.

How it helps: Donate a Photo is paired with a variety of causes in different categories from women’s and children’s health to emergency relief. After you contribute a photo, the app donates $1 to the cause you select.

How it works: All you have to do is select a charity to support and share a photo through the app. Then, Johnson & Johnson will donate $1 to your cause. With this app your selfies can support a good cause like helping a newborn breathe or creating a safe space for kids at school.

Coin Up

Who it’s perfect for: The everyday spender, along with anyone who hates spare change (everyone). What were you going to do with that extra $.47 anyway?

How it helps: Coin Up lets you personalize your giving through everyday spending at a level that works for you. They’re paired with a number of different non-profit organizations in categories that range from anti-bullying to the environment and health care.

How it works: All you have to do is select the non-profit you want to support, spend as usual and the app rounds up your transactions and donates according to your set limits. Let’s make some change. And give it to charity.

Tax deductible: Probably. The app recommends talking to your tax advisor. At the end of the year the app will send you a receipt of your donations.

Fotition

Who it’s perfect for: Anyone who’s creative, slightly competitive and ready to take their photography skills to a new level of “fun-draising.”

How it helps: With Fotition you can discover campaigns and things you care about and help raise money for those causes by participating in fun photo challenges.

How it works: You contribute a photo to a photo challenge of your choosing, and sponsors of the app make a donation on your behalf. The donation amount varies by competition and sponsor.

Be My Eyes

Who it’s perfect for: Are you someone who always tries to get people to see things your way. Well, with this app, it’s guaranteed.

How it helps: Through Be My Eyes you can volunteer and help blind and low-vision people around the world see, just by doing a video call.

How it works: As a sighted volunteer, you’ll be asked to select your preferred language while creating your account. Next, there’s a step-by-step guide to let you know how to answer a call. Don’t worry if you may not always have an open schedule. When a blind or visually impaired individual requests help, the app notifies multiple volunteers, and the first person to respond gets the call.

GoodShop

Who it’s perfect for: Shopaholics, bargain hunters, coupon clippers and anyone with an eye for a good deal.

How it helps: GoodShop is partnered with more than 3,000 stores and regularly offers more than 25,000 discounts and money-saving coupons to users. The money that’s donated comes from the GoodShop’s referral fee they charge to retailers. The app is partnered with numerous organizations including Make-A-Wish Foundation, American Red Cross, the ASPCA, American Cancer Society and Habitat for Humanity, just to name a few.

How it works: You select the cause you want to support. From there all you have to do is shop online using promo codes for deals at thousands of retailers. Then, GoodShop donates a percentage of your purchase.

Thanks to technology, with the smallest gesture, you can make a big impact. Who knew helping the planet and mankind could be this easy?
