What is the Clean Label Project ™ ? Why should this matter to you?
The Clean Label Project ™ is a nonprofit organization that focuses on health and transparency for consumer product labeling to help you make more informed choices on cleaner options, every time you shop. By using data and science, The Clean Label Project ™ reveals the true contents of America’s best-selling consumer products and publishes those results as product ratings. Their certification process also factors in good stuff like ingredient quality.
In short? The Clean Label Project ™ works as an advocacy group for all consumers by using actual retail sampling and random unbiased testing to establish evidence-based benchmarks for the brands that you love most.
That’s why, for us, it’s not just about the good stuff we put in our supplements, it’s also about making sure that you and your family are getting the safest, cleanest products possible. Because just like you, we’re always working to be the best for our families and yours.
So, what does the The Clean Label Project ™ test for?
The Clean Label Project ™ tests for more than 130 harmful environmental and industrial contaminants by conducting unbiased, state-of-the-art testing in an accredited analytical laboratory. These include: lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury, antibiotics, BPA/BPS, pesticides, glyphosate, heavy metals, mycotoxins and residual solvents. Their certification process also factors in good stuff like ingredient quality.
They acquire products through a process that mirrors the consumer shopping experience, meaning they go to a local retailer and purchase items just like you. The products tested represent the top 90% of best-selling products across America, from baby food to sunscreen to household cleaners.
Because not all brands are upfront about what’s actually inside their products. In addition to that, product labels only list ingredients that a product is known to contain. What they don’t include are contaminants and other additives that a product may come in contact with during the manufacturing process and as they enter the supply chain.
For example, contamination can occur through transportation and storage systems. Some of these are unavoidable, and The Clean Label Project ™ understand that no product may be 100 percent free from all unwanted contaminants. However, their certifications, help consumers identify which products contain the least contaminants to help them make more informed decisions when shopping for clean products.
What did SmartyPants do to get certified by The Clean Label Project ™ ?
To select and test supplements, The Clean Label Project acquires products in a way that mirrors the consumer experience. So, they randomly purchased SmartyPants supplements that were already in store and conducted unbiased, state-of-the-art testing in an accredited analytical laboratory.
While other companies might claim they include the highest-quality nutrients available and that their products don’t contain any potentially harmful ingredients, these new Clean Label Certifications let consumers know that when it comes to SmartyPants supplements, we not only comply with but exceed the strictest standards for contaminants, chemicals and other unwanted additives.
In addition to The Clean Label Project, all of our multifunctional supplements are third-party lab tested for quality assurance for nutritional ingredient levels, and to ensure specifications are met for micro, heavy metals and pesticides.
These include:
- Yeast
- Mold
- Salmonella
- E. coli or Escherichia coli
- S. aureus or Staphylococcus aureus
- Lead
- Arsenic
- Cadmium
- Mercury
- Pesticides

Because we’re committed to being transparent, we’re proud to share those results with our consumers. This lets you know that what’s on the label is the same as what is and is not inside the bottle.
To view these results, just look for the batch number on the bottom of your bottle. Then, visit our Certificate of Compliance page to find your bottle’s batch number and corresponding test results.
