Our commitment to science-based nutrition is delivering the highest-quality nutrients available, in forms that the body prefers and can easily use, to help fill typical nutrient gaps in the Western diet.

When it comes to ingredients and the amounts to include, we have always based our formulas on the latest scientific research and recommendations by the Health & Medicine Division of the National Academies (the “HMD,” formerly known as the Institute of Medicine / “IOM”).

The HMD conducts comprehensive research and generates nutrient recommendations into 22 life-stage groups based on age, gender, reproductive status and other population characteristics that could potentially influence the adequacy and safety of a given nutrient intake.

This commitment to the latest science is one of the exciting, albeit complex, aspects to SmartyPants supplements. And a prime reason why we are currently reformulating our products, taking into consideration the latest research to continue to tailor SmartyPants to the populations our products are serving, and adding even more nutrients in the process or reducing the amounts of others as advised by the latest scientific recommendations.

Then why have the daily recommended values changed? Well, that’s a longer story.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (the “FDA”) regulates the supplement industry to ensure that companies are including what’s inside their products on the supplement fact panel.

Here’s where it gets tricky… the “daily nutrient value” recommendations are based on only 4 life-stage groups and haven’t been updated since the 1960s (as opposed to the HMD, which updates their recommendations every 5 years and divides them into 22 life-stage groups).

But, for the first time in 50 years the FDA has updated the recommended daily nutrient values (%DV) based on the latest research by the HMD.

To be compliant with these new regulations, supplement companies are required to update their labels to reflect the HMD’s latest findings by January, 1 2020. Spurred by our commitment to innovation and producing only the highest-quality supplements, we’re updating our formulas and labels ahead of the deadline.

Given the complexity of the manufacturing process, with some retailers like Costco, for example, our reformulated products will hit the shelves with updated supplement facts but without an updated front-of-label communicating the changes.

We apologize if this has caused any confusion or alarm, but we can assure you the supplement facts are valid and up-to-date with the latest regulatory standards. And at SmartyPants, we go the extra step to 3rd party lab test each batch for purity, potency and safety.

In 2020, you will see adjustments to all supplement facts based on these new recommendations. We’re just a little ahead of the game.

We felt like calling our products “Complete” didn’t capture completely our drive to be the best we can, as with our current reformulation work, so we decided to change. Hence, “Formula.”

Our newly-upgraded multifunctional SmartyPants Formulas have all the same nutrients you’ve come to love, plus even more premium ingredients like:

• Vitamin K2 in the premium form MK7 and K1 for bone health*
• Vitamin B6 in the active form P5P for energy*
• Vitamin A as beta carotene and retinyl palmitate to support eyesight*
• Vitamin C, an antioxidant for immune support*
• Choline as Vitacholine
• Niacin as inositol niacitate

One of the nutrients added to our newly-upgraded multifunctional SmartyPants Formulas is Vitamin A as beta carotene—the nutrient that makes carrots orange. Because of this, you may notice that our gummies may look a little more sun-kissed, but the great taste and velvety texture have remained the same.

Nope! Despite adding even more nutrients and now only containing 6 grams of sugar, our newly-upgraded multifunctional SmartyPants Formulas have the same delicious flavors and great taste.

Adding new nutrients and improving legacy ingredients is a complex process.

To ensure that our newly-upgraded SmartyPants Formulas maintain our standards of great taste, our Kids Formulas contain the same amount of sugar as before.

However, our Men’s, Women’s and Prenatal Formulas now contain only 6 grams of sugar per serving. So now you can enjoy the same great taste, with even more nutrients.

Thanks to the latest breakthroughs in gummy science, despite adding more nutrients, we managed to make our Men’s, Women’s and Prenatal Formula gummies even smaller! Our Kids Formula gummies have stayed about the same size.
