How to Use

If you don't use peanuts, then how is it peanut butter flavored?

The peanut butter flavor in our SmartyPaws chews comes from an all-natural proprietary flavor blend that dogs love, but we took allergies into account. So, our formulas do not contain any of the following: soy, peanuts, wheat, beef, eggs, tree nut allergens, dairy, synthetic colors or synthetic flavors.

Is SmartyPaws peanut free and safe for homes with nut allergies?

That's a great question! The answer is that SmartyPaws is peanut-free as well as free of wheat, beef, eggs, tree nut allergens, dairy and synthetic colors and flavors. We know that dogs love the flavor of peanut butter so we created a proprietary peanut-like flavor made from natural ingredients that leaves out the actual peanuts. We wanted to avoid ingredients that were the leading allergens for dogs (and the humans that love those dogs). We do want to make sure you are aware that SmartyPaws is made in a facility that produces products for other companies that could potentially contain allergens like peanuts.

What type of fish do you use for your fatty acids?

We source our omega-3 EPA and DHA fatty acids from the whole bodies of anchovies, sardines and mackerel.

What is MSM?

MSM is well-known in the dog supplement world as being a superstar ingredient, but most people don’t know what these three letters mean. MSM or methylsulfonylmethane is a naturally-occurring form of sulfur found in a wide variety of fruits, vegetables and grains. However, like many other supplement companies, we use a synthetic form of MSM because it allows us to have more control over the purity, potency and stability of this ingredient. We include MSM because it helps enhance good hip and joint health. It also helps support the structural integrity of joints and connective tissues, promotes cartilage development and eases joint stiffness due to normal daily exercise and activity, among other health benefits.

What does your NASC Certification mean?

SmartyPaws is certified by the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC). In order to use the NASC Quality Seal, we had to undergo a rigorous third-party audit by the NASC to ensure we follow Good Manufacturing Processes (GMPs), something we’re an expert on. These GMPs are a series of very stringent quality control rules based on dietary supplement manufacturing guidelines that the NASC adjusts to address supplements made for pets. A non-profit trade organization, the NASC has strict guidelines for quality assurance, labeling and reporting of any adverse events.
